Challenge
Rapid growth and outdated processes created a challenge for our client in the transportation business. They didn’t have a depot or centralised collections processes; they relied on their drivers to manage their fleet and collect fares from passengers.
The company had no control over the way their vehicles were used, the number of trips they made, how many people were transported on those trips, and how to reconcile the money collected with the trips travelled per day.
The drivers exploited this blind spot. They skimmed off the top of the daily receipts by reporting lower totals. The company suspected this and turned to us for help.

Solution
We discovered from our engagement with leaders that trust had been broken between the company and its employees, and we set the following goals to start the rebuilding process:
Financial control
Supervisory control
Cost reduction
Asset management
Revenue growth
Our approach was to modernise their processes to improve the way they created records, collected revenue, monitored their operations, and mitigated operational risks.
Over months of research, we tested a few devices and technologies, using various combinations to find the most technically and economically viable solution.
We designed an end-to-end solution on the Internet of Things (IoT) architecture with three layers of technology: smart devices (perception layer), edge computing (network layer), and cloud computing (application layer).
Our solution would help the company collect data from their vehicles, analyse it, and generate a report on the total number of people that travelled in their vehicles that day.
Result
By implementing our solution, the company would gain back control of their business with tangible information that gives them a 360-degree view of their operations to improve financial and supervision controls.
This would give them the ability to monitor the inflow of money, manage their asset and employees’ performance, and budget a lot more accurately with the newfound insights into their operations.
